April 3, 1904 - Dec. 21, 1976) An industrial designer, he designed housewares and furniture from the late 1920s through the 1960s. His design philosophy was based on the idea of informal easy living, minimizing housework and increasing leisure time. Wright designed lines of dinnerware and furniture that were manufactured by companies such as Steubenville Pottery in Steubenville, OH; Northern Plastic Company in Boston, MA and Conant-Ball in Gardner, MA. Russel Wright Studios continues to operate today under the direction of his daughter Annie.
