(1901-1989) Best known for her clean, simple silver banded/rimmed and silver fade wares, Dorothy Thorpe was a prolific designer.
Beginning in the 1930s she started by purchasing glass blanks and sandblasting her own innovative designs inspired by her frequent trips to Hawaii. Toward the middle of the century she was designing a wide range of glassware with silver and platinum bands, both with a clean edge or fading from "silver" to clear. Generically we refer to this type of silvered glass as "Mercury".
Since much of this glass was produced by a wide verity of designers and manufacturers it is best to attribute it to Thorpe unless it is marked or otherwise documented.
